It's official! This evening I booked my ticket to Iceland. Classes finish on April 30th and by May 2nd we will be on our way. Iceland will be country #20 on my list and ironically , I will turn 20 only a few weeks after.
Let me start by saying, Iceland gets a bad wrap.
Many have asked me why I would choose to spend part of our short Canadian summer in a place named after its cold climate. My response to all of you who are thinking the same is to do a little research on all that Iceland has to offer. Glacier parks, natural hot springs, kayaking, horseback riding, hiking. I know, I know... I can do all these things in Canada too but there is more!
Iceland is also the home to the largest population of puffins, it is one of the world's most accessible spots for viewing the northern lights and it is the homeland of the hipster. The cities' shops and cafes seem to exude creativity, as do the numerous art galleries and museums. How could they not be a culture drawn to art with the mystical landscape that surrounds them. If you still don't believe me take a look at this video...then maybe you'll think twice.
